CPN organized SCIPROM conference

Center for the Promotion of Science organized the First SEE Regional Science Promotion Conference from October 2 to October 3 with support of UNESCO[:]

The First SEE Regional Science Promotion Conference was organized by CPN in Belgrade from October 2 to October 3.

SCIPROM, supported by UNESCO, gathered science promoters and popularizators, scientists and journalists from the whole South-European region.

The conference was held at the National Bank of Serbia.

Besides CPN, the co-organizers were also the FEFA faculty, UNESCO office in Venice, Commission of the Republic of Serbia for the cooperation with UNESCO, SCICAMP EU Network, as well as the embassies of Great Britain and USA.

The conference was supported by several partners from scientific community, as well as the number of sponsors, since CPN had very restricted financial resources for organization at its disposal and the participation of delegates was not charged.

During the two-days conference, the participants were able to hear many discussions regarding society and science, media, economy, NGO’s and educational system.

The minister of education, science and technological development, Tomislav Jovanovic, was one of the speakers at the conference. He emphasized the importance of science in development of society.

The other speakers were Ana Trbovic, the FEFA dean, Vera Dondur, the president of the National Council for Science, Toni Verheejen from the World Bank, Martin Kern from the EU Delegation to Serbia and Mario Scalet from UNESCO, who greeted the participants in the name of Irina Bokova, UNESCO General Secretary.

The conference was also attended by ministers from Bosnia and Hercegovina and Republika Srpska, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Science of Montenegro, SANU representatives and representatives of all important institutes and universities in Serbia and in the region.

The conference was opened by Aleksandra Drecun, CPN director, who emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in terms of raising level of scientific culture, which is the precondition for the future economic growth of the region.
