CPN panel titled ”The Era of Extremes”, held in February 12, at the Big Hall of SKC, marked the attendance of 200 people[:]
More than 200 people attended the CPN panel on Wednesday, February 12, at 7pm, hosted by the Big Hall of SKC. The panel featured a discussion on climate changes in the era of frequent natural disasters, like flooding, droughts etc.
For more than a year, CPN Panel Program has been gathering scientists and experts in many areas, to take part in discussing current scientific topics. Panel ”The Era of Extremes: What is going on with the Climate?” featured scientists who have been dealing with this issue for quite some time, and they gave their best efforts to expose all the aspects of the global warming issue.
The panel hosted Danica Spasova on behalf of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia, PhD Vladimir Đurđević from the Institute of Meteorology in Belgrade, and PhD Milan M. Ćirković, from the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade. The moderator of the panel was Slobodan Bubnjević from CPN.
The audience had the opportunity to see and discuss three short movies produced by NASA. The movies illustrated the climate changes we are currently experiencing. The audience was, as usual, presented with science graphics titled ”Ice Age”, designed by Aleksandar Savić.
The discussion focused on part of the society that denies the existence of this phenomenon and the issue of human responsibility in triggering the changes. Some of the questions that arose during the panel were: What is global warming? How does the Earth get warmer? How do we evaluate the risks? Is it too late to stop the process of global warming, and especially, what can we do to stop the climate changes?
The participants also discussed different ways those climate changes affect our everyday lives and they were even presented with various case scenarios that helped them understand the problem better.
