The last CPN panel in the year 2013 with the topic “Why is Horoscope a Fraud?” attracted many visitors[:]
The panel “Why is Horoscope a Fraud?” was held at the SKC Big Hall on Wednesday, December 18, at 7 p.m. This was the last panel among Wednesdays panel session organized at the Student Cultural Center during 2013.
More than 200 visitors had the opportunity to listen about scientific approach towards horoscopes during two and a half hours long conversation. They were also allowed to put the questions to panel participants.
The topics of the panel were pseudoscientific method of astrology, difference between astrology and astronomy, analysis of principles which astrology is based on, as well as the reasons why they can not be scientifically supported.
The conversation was also related to psychological and sociological phenomena of astrologists popularity. It was also discussed why daily horoscope predictions should not be seriously regarded. The speakers talked about history of astrology and located the time when it was divided from the conventional science. They also mentioned why it can not be considered as science, no matter what astrologists say.
The panel speakers were: Milan Ćirković, astrophysicist, Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade and Oxford University; Igor Smolic, astronomist, Insitute of Physics in Belgrade; Oliver Toskovic, psychologist, Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and Voja Antonic, popular science writer and free constructor.
The panel was moderated by Slobodan Bubnjevic, editor of Communications at the Center for Promotion of Science.
